Connected Futures: The Science of Building Social Capital for High School Students

This course helps students learn and practice important skills to identify and connect with adults in their lives. Research shows that this course can improve students' academic well-being.

This course helps youth learn and practice skills to identify and reach out to adults in their lives. We’ll give you some information, ask for your input, and encourage you to do some practice activities based on what you learn. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the course:

  • In order for the course to be helpful, it’s really important to go beyond reading the content. You should try out the activities we suggest in real life. You might want to choose a family member or friend who can help you be accountable and help you practice new skills as you move through the activities.
  • Above each lesson page, you’ll see a tab called Materials. This “Materials” tab contains your Connected Futures Toolbox. This is a collection of helpful tools that you’ll pick up throughout the Connected Futures Course. Return to your “Materials” at any time to find resources that can support you on your journey to building a social network.
