Description

This course equips mentees with evidence-based strategies for thriving in college, providing both the practical tools and mindsets needed to succeed academically. Students learn how to organize their schedules, manage deadlines, take effective notes, and prepare for exams. In addition, the training addresses common thinking traps and negative patterns that often interfere with learning, offering proven techniques to overcome them.

By combining organizational strategies with cognitive science insights, this course helps students build the habits and resilience required to meet the challenges of higher education. It also serves as a valuable resource for mentoring program training, ensuring that mentors are equipped to guide students through academic transitions with research-driven tools.

This course was developed by Dr. Alexandra Werntz at the Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring and was inspired by the work of cognitive scientist Professor Daniel T. Willingham (University of Virginia), who generously consulted on its application to mentoring.
