Write Down Your SMART Goals for Mentees

The Power of Writing Down Your Goals

There is research-backed evidence that shows that people who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them.

It's time to write down your goals.

First ask yourself, what am I willing to work towards? What’s important for me to accomplish in the next few months? What can I work towards with the support of my mentor?

In this exercise, consider one or more goals that you’re willing to share with your mentor. If you’re part of a mentoring program with a specific focus (like an academic program or career development, for example), write down goals that are aligned with your program.

Writing down your SMART goals will help you identify if what you want to achieve is realistic and determine a deadline for yourself. Download and complete the handout below. Alternatively, you can write down your SMART goal in a notes app on your phone, in your planner, or anywhere that you’ll be able to find it in the future.
