Messages That Understand the Transfer Experience

Here are message examples you can send for different transfer-specific moments — a first welcome, an academic concern, a connection nudge, or a check-in after a quiet stretch. Swap in your mentee’s real details wherever you see brackets.
- Personalized welcome:
“Hi Jordan—welcome to UMass Boston! I’m [Name], and I’ll be your mentor this semester. I saw that you transferred from [college/program] and are interested in [goal or interest]. Would Tuesday or Thursday be better for a first conversation?”
- Academic concern:
“Hi Jordan—you mentioned that [course, assignment, registration, or transfer credit question] has been difficult. Would it help to talk through what is getting in the way, or explore the right academic-support connection?”
- Connection or belonging:
“Hi Jordan — transferring can make it harder to find your people at first. You mentioned enjoying [interest]. Want me to send one group or event connected to that?”
- Two weeks without contact:
“Hi Jordan—just checking in. I know transfer semesters can get busy, and there is no need to explain the gap. Would a quick message check-in or a meeting next week work best?”
